Seven days a week, visit Mystic Aquarium.  Not the biggest aquarium in the country but very well done and a leader in field research.  Lots of hands-on opportunities!
  Mystic Seaport is open daily through 11/27, Thursday~Sunday till 1/1/12, closed Jan. 2 ~ Feb. 15, then limited hours till March 31.
Explore American maritime history first-hand as you climb aboard historic tall ships, stroll through a re-created 19th-century coastal village or watch a working preservation shipyard in action.
Wednesdays through Saturdays, the Mashantucket Pequot Museum is open. 
This Smithsonian affiliate is a world-class museum, easily 3-4 hours to tour.

Beverage tasting? 
Visit nearby Stonington Vineyards, Jonathan Edwards Winery and Cottrell Brewing Company. 


Looking for something on the water?  Try seal watching with Project Oceanology.
Or, how about a tour of the USS Nautilus,
homeported at the Submarine Force Museum.
